The 2016 Daily Journal Annual meeting has come and gone. Now, a few days out from the meeting, the full set of notes and audio are available online. Here is a curated sampling of what I found interesting from the meeting.
IBM has been struggling mightily for the past few years. They’ve been shifting towards becoming more of a software company – a company focused on cloud technology and big data analytics. Why? This is where the growth, and subsequently, the money is. Don’t get me wrong, they still make gushers of profit from their more traditional businesses such as hardware sales and consulting, it’s just that the growth prospects in these more traditional businesses don’t have as much potential as software. Watching IBM evolve over the past few years has been akin to watching the Titanic make a full 180 degree turn: slow and tedious. Let’s take a look at what they’ve been cooking up on the software side.
